Reading Celebrated at Foundation Phase Reading Competition

1 min read

The Foundation Phase Reading Competition is usually held in Term 4 where all three grades have their own competition on one day.

This year the Foundation Phase Reading Competition was held on Wednesday, 21 October 2026.

There are 8 finalists per grade and their parents are invited to attend the competition. Each child reads a prepared and unprepared piece. We have three adjudicators who score these finalists according to a rubric and the winners are the learners who fared the best in both prepared and unprepared reading. This year the finalists received a bookmark and chocolate, and the winner received a trophy.

Our winners for 2026 are as follows:

Grade 1: Linamandla Sicbebu

Grade 2: Kasimara Nwachukwu

Grade 3: Zeeq de Monk.

Herbert Hurd Primary School is known for hosting Reading Competitions in various grades, which is quite unirque.
