FACILITIES

Martin Emmerick Main Hall

The main hall seats approximately 900 people.

It was named in honour of Mr Emmerick,  school principal from 1954 to 1967.

The hall is used for daily activities, extra-mural activities, school assemblies, shows, award ceremonies, conferences  and more.

The Aquatics Centre

The centre was officially opened by Mr E. Westraadt, Governing Body Chariman, on 5 November 2009

The original swimming-pool was opened by Mr D. Stickells on 26 November 1976.

The Aquatics Centre is used for guiding young learners to learn to swim as a life skill, teaching swimming during Physical Education classes and coaching swimming as a school sport.

The Aquatics Centre is also used by PEA to coach club swimming.

Music Rooms and Centres

The school boasts three dedicated piano rooms where individual piano lessons are taught.

The school hall is used for teaching piano and coaching the choirs and concert band.

There is a dedicated bandroom above the school hall.

Class music is offered in the Audio-Visual Room.

The Howcroft Centre

The Howcroft Centre is a dedicated computer laboratory. It is extremely spacious and seats 40 learners with ease. It also boasts a dedicated server room and storeroom.

The Howcroft Centre is used to teach Coding and Robotics and other core application skill to learners from Grade 5 to Grade 7.

The Howcroft centre is the hub for a dedicated server, swithces,  a firewall, two fibre lines, routers and wi-fi access to 1 000 users.

It empowers the learners to use their iPads more effectively.

The Ed. Tech. Centre

The Ed. Tech. centre was established to teach core iPad skills, equiping both teachers and learners to use their iPads more effecrtively in the classroom.

The Ed. Tech. centre is now also used to teach Coding and Robotics to learners from Grade 1 to Grade 4.

The School Library

The school library is used for book exchanges, subject research and teaching learners how to use a media centre effectively.

The latest works of fiction and non-fiction are regularly ordered to ensure continued interest and love of readiing.

The Cranna Fields

The Cranna Fields are the top sports fields closest to the school. These are used mainly for cricket and hockey coaching and matches.

The cricket nets provide the players with a safe space to hone their bowling and batting skills. The pitch area is a combination of grass and an artificial surface.

Netball Courts

Herbert Hurd Primary School boasts three netball courts with brand new surfaces.

Learners of all age groups use our courts to develop their netball skills and play matches..

Tennis Courts

The three netball courts are multi-purpose courts that are also used for tennis.

Our tennis players practise and play matches throughout the year.  Derby Days are especially popular.

OTHER FACILITIES AT VARIOUS VENUES

TUCK SHOP; HERBIES HUT

​

Our tuck shop is open at first break, second break and after school until 3:00pm. Our tuck shop sells hot foods, health foods and drinks and snacks. Parents are encouraged to educate their children with regard to healthy eating and purchasing from our tuck shop.

THE HURDIAN

​

The Hurdian is the Club House situated on the Birkholtz Fields a block away from the school. This venue lends itself to be used by groups and classes and  other activities.

​

THE HERBERT HURD AFTERCARE FACILITY

 

The aftercare facility consists of 2 houses converted for aftercare. The premises are directly opposite the school main entrance. This facility is run independently from the school. Separate application is made to gain entry to the aftercare facility. Due to limited space, we include a list of other private aftercares that operate in close proximity to the school.

AVAILABLE AFTERCARE FACILITIES IN THE AREA

 

Available aftercare facilities include: Awesome Kids;  Sarah's Aftercare;  Leap Frog and Jackie's Aftercare.
