ACADEMIC INCENTIVES

AMBASSADORIAL LEARNERS

A group of Grade 7 learners will be appointed as Ambassadorial Learners to represent the school at official functions. This can happen at any whole school assembly throughout the year. Duties and responsibilities will be shared with learners after selection.

A POSITIVE ATTITUDE 

A learner who we can trust to behave well, work hard, or do what we expect them to do.

BEING SKILLED AT CONVERSATION

Doesn’t essentially need to be outgoing or extroverted. However, it's comfortable and skilled in one-on-one communication situations.

A SENSE OF SCHOOL SPIRIT AND PRIDE

Exhibits a feeling of strong connection to our school or being proud to represent our school and the values it stands for.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR INVOLVEMENT

Consider learners who are already involved in a variety for extracurricular activities. This way, they can collectively speak to what our school has to offer.

ACCEPTING OF OTHERS

Consider learners who are already involved in a variety for extracurricular activities. This way, they can collectively speak to what our school has to offer.

PROFESSIONALISM

Ambassadors act as representatives and, as such, should be able to maintain professional composure when the time or event calls for it.

HURDIAN OF THE WEEK

Any learner who excels in any particular field and has brought credit to himself/herself and the School, or who does something exceptional without being asked, can be nominated as the Hurdian of the Week at the Whole School Assemblies. They keep the Hurdian badge for the duration of that year.

In order to stimulate academic awareness amongst our learners, a wide variety of academic incentives have been created.

Herbert Hurd Primary Shool Incentives

ACADEMIC CERTIFICATES

​Academic certificates are awarded, at the annual Award Ceremonies, to learners who have achieved at the highest possible level throughout the year. These certificates are also graded into gold, silver or bronze categories. The top five in each class (Grades 1-3), the top five academics and the top in each Learning Area will also be recognised from Grade 4 to 7. In addition:
Grade 1-3: These certificates are directly related to the learners’ attitude and commitment to school and all it has to offer.
Grade 1-5: Every learner will receive a general certificate at their annual Awards Ceremony.
Grade 6 and 7 learners will receive a certificate if they have achieved 80% and above in any of the Learning Areas

CLASSDOJO- / MERIT BADGES

These badges are awarded continuously to learners who achieve the required number of merits in our ClassDojo Management System. These badges differ in the Foundation Phase, Intermediate Phase and Senior Phase
Foundation Phase : Green ClassDojo badge: 40 points
Brown ClassDojo badge: 60 points
Ship badge: 80 points
White badge: 100 points
Intermediate Phase: Merit badge (green) awarded for 25 merits
Grade 4-6: White badge awarded for 45 merits
Ship badge awarded for 65 merits

Senior Phase:
Grade 7: Merit badge (20 merits)
White badge (40 merits)
Ship (50 merits)

ACADEMIC BADGES

These badges are awarded to the learners in Grade 4 to 7 at the end of each semester. The recipients have had to maintain an academic standard of 80% plus for the semester. The recipients keep their badges until the end of the next semester.
